Why we love this experience

  • Natural Ecosystems:

The host states explicit environmental intent: keeping group sizes small and following practices that protect the rivers, forests, and farmland that Kiulu's way of life depends on.

  • Culture:

The host's mission is explicit and specific: to share the real Kiulu — not a polished, tourist-only version, but the culture, landscapes, and daily life of the community as it actually is. The jungle survival workshop — machete use, traditional fire-making, animal trap-setting — is framed as a transfer of traditional skills and knowledge, not just an adventure activity.

  • Community:

Every experience is designed to support the local community through fair income for local guides and families and preserving traditional skills and knowledge.

  • Participation:

Rafting, trekking, fire-making, trap-setting, canyoning — the experience is hands-on and physically engaged throughout. Guests are learning something the guide's own community actually relies on.

  • Rhythm:

The host explicitly commits to keeping group sizes small as part of its environmental and cultural approach.

About the host

Mission

Our mission is to share the real Kiulu - not a polished, tourist-only version, but the culture, landscapes, and daily life of the community as it actually is. We want travellers to leave with a genuine understanding of this part of Borneo.Just as importantly, we're driven by impact. Every experience we run is designed to directly support the local community - whether that's through fair income for local guides and families, preserving traditional skills and knowledge, or simply making sure tourism here benefits the people who call Kiulu home.

Impact

Our experience is rooted in respect for Kiulu's culture and environment. We work directly with local guides and community members, so the stories, traditions, and skills shared with travellers come straight from the people who live them. We're mindful of our environmental footprint too, keeping group sizes small and following practices that protect the natural surroundings - rivers, forests, and farmland - that Kiulu's way of life depends on. The goal is for travellers to leave with genuine appreciation for the place and its people, while making sure our presence supports rather than disrupts local life and nature.
