Disconnect from the digital world and reconnect to the natural world. We spend upwards of 11 hours per day on our devices and 80% of us have sreen apnea, meaning we don't take full breaths when looking at the screen. Participants will learn techniques to apply to daily life. The workshop ends with an integrative tea ceremony and council. Participants will come away feeling more connected to the themselves, their coworkers, and the world around them.

Why we love this experience

  • Natural Ecosystems:

The entire experience takes place in nature — not as a backdrop, but as the active ingredient. The workshop draws on Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of immersive forest presence, grounded in the understanding that sustained screen exposure disconnects us from our own bodies and the living world around us. The Forest Bathing Club acknowledges the Indigenous Shasta land it now operates on and pays reparations — a rare and concrete commitment that extends the care for place beyond the experience itself.

  • Culture:

The Digital Detox draws on a convergence of practices: Japanese forest bathing, Indigenous land acknowledgement, and earth-based healing traditions studied by founder Julia Plevin across cultures. The closing tea ceremony and council circle are rooted in traditions of communal reflection — not adapted for performance, but used as genuine tools for integration. This is not wellness tourism dressed up in nature language; it carries real cultural lineage.

  • Participation:

Participants learn specific techniques to carry into daily life: conscious breathing, sensory attention, slowing down. The workshop ends with a council circle — a format that asks everyone to speak and to listen, not just to receive. You leave with tools, not just a memory.

  • Rhythm:

Half-day by default, customisable to full-day or multi-day. Group size is flexible — the host has worked with couples and groups of up to 50 at festivals. Pricing is discussed directly with the host based on group size, location, and partnerships, which allows for adaptation rather than a fixed commercial model. The workshop can come to you, reducing the travel footprint for larger groups.

About the host

Mission

Our mission is to inspire people to reconnect to nature as a way to heal themselves, their communities, and the whole planet

Impact

The Forest Bathing Club is built on a straightforward premise: nature is not a backdrop, it is the healer. Founded by Julia Plevin in San Francisco in 2015, originally as a community meet-up, the club has led over 1,000 people through immersive experiences in forests and natural spaces, drawing on the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku and earth-based healing traditions studied across the world. The experiences are designed to slow people down, restore attention, and rebuild a sense of belonging to the natural world, a relationship that is both personal and collective. We acknowledges the Indigenous land it operates on and pay reparations to the Shasta people, reflecting a commitment to community and cultural accountability that goes beyond the walk itself.
